The Writing Program
The Heritage High School Writing Program is designed to reflect the Common Core Standards and ensure career and college readiness. In addition to a variety of informal and on-demand writing experiences, three essential types of formal writing will be reflected in every English course: argumentative, expository, and narrative. All major writing pieces will be kept in a portfolio.
Below you will find the rubrics teachers will use to grade the major essays. Read each rubric carefully and consult with your teacher should you have any questions. In addition, teachers will also look for evidence of the writing process, which will be graded with the Writing Process Checklist.

The Writing Process Checklist
Every major essay will require students to go through the writing process. Research and collection, drafting, revision, proofreading, and MLA style are all important components; although, there may be some slight variation from assignment to assignment. The basic checklist can be found below.
